Philip has had an exciting evening! This is what he told his friend the next day.
“Well, we were having fish and chips, and my mum was using this chip pan we’ve got and when she’d done all the chips she forgot to turn
off the cooker and we were eating our tea and my dad said what is that smell and we all rushed out and there were flames right up to the
ceiling nearly.” What happened next?
The way we write a story is quite different from the way we tell one. Mrs Johnson, Philip’s teacher, asked him to write the story of the
fire. He started like this... ‘One day we decided to have fish and chips for tea...’

Mrs Johnson thought this was a very dull way to start! Philip began again and started like this.
