                   Dear Reader,
The Children’s Safety Education Foundation have been engaged in the fire safety education of children in schools for many
years. We regard this core aspect of our work as being of the utmost importance.

We are pleased to be working in partnership with schools and the emergency services to deliver life-saving messages. The
‘Red Alert’ resource provides the necessary information to generate good citizenship, utilising the firefighter as a suitable role
model, so helping young people to effectively tackle one of the major risks faced in the course of their everyday lives.

We have always been keen to put children at the forefront of our educational programmes. It permits us to educate today the
adults, parents and elderly of tomorrow. It also allows young people to talk to their family members about life saving
messages, which enables us to reach more of our community.

This resource has been designed to provide an insight into the role of the Fire and Rescue Service and the hazards faced by
firefighters on a daily basis. Cross curricular links can be easily made with other subject areas such as English and Science
and, in addition, work in this area will support the development of pupils’ ability to develop safe practices in line with the
“well-being and personal development” agenda. It provides a range of curriculum starting points, allows for flexibility in
delivery and could be used in many contexts.
Young people who learn safety skills not only make their own lives and those of their families safer now, but also invest in
                   their safety for the future.
